Hubert Davis has been very active in the transfer portal so far in his head coaching career. This past offseason, he worked to bring in a three-player class that included former Georgia Tech standout Ty Claude.
But Claude has yet to suit up for the Tar Heels in their charity game and it appears as if he wont for a bit now.
Per Inside Carolina, the Tar Heels are working to resolve eligibility issues with Claude ahead of the season. He has spent time with Georgia Tech, Western Carolina and Morehead State in his career, marking his sixth season this year.
He entered the portal back in April and was then granted an NCAA waiver for 2024-25 eligibility four months later.
On Friday, a source close the situation at UNC said “at some point he will play, it’s just a matter of when” this season. Coach Hubert Davis’ team has a final exhibition tuneup on Sunday against visiting Johnson C. Smith. The preseason No. 9 Tar Heels open the approaching season Nov. 4 against Elon, before squaring off against preseason No. 1 Kansas four nights later.
The Goldsboro, North Carolina native joined UNC’s roster in August as the final piece to the roster for this season.
With the NCAA granting him a waiver and now him working through eligibility issues, it’s another case of the NCAA not making any sense.
Let’s hope this gets resolved and he can play.
