The expectations are high in Chapel Hill for the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s basketball program. After falling short in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the Tar Heels are looking to take that next step and make a big run this year.
And on Wednesday the team got the season off to a good start.
North Carolina took down Gardner-Webb 102-49 at home on Wednesday, dominating the Runnin’ Bulldogs from the start. The Tar Heels had 10 players score a point in this win, including six players in double-digits for Courtney Banghart’s team.
That effort was led by Indya Nivar who led all scorers with 17 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes of play. The former Stanford transfer made a good first impression for the Tar Heels at Carmichael Arena.

Sophomore guard Paulina Paris finished with 15 points and had 5 assists in the win.
North Carolina will have a somewhat quick turnaround as they return to action on Sunday night, hosting Davidson. The Tar Heels are looking to start off the season with a 2-0 record early and continue their stellar play.
