UNC wide receivers leading country in significant category

The UNC football wide receivers are leading the country in significant category across the last few seasons.

The UNC football program has put an explosive offense on the field for most of Mack Brown’s second tenure here in Chapel Hill. A large part of that has been with the passing attack and having some of the best quarterbacks in the ACC, and at times, all of college football.

Brown transitioned from Sam Howell, one of the best quarterbacks in UNC history, to having Drake Maye, someone well on his way to breaking more records in Chapel Hill.

With the lethal passing attack, the UNC wide receivers have been some of the most explosive across all of college football.

And, since 2019, there is no program with more 1,000+ yard receiving seasons by an individual than the Tar Heels.

Both Dyami Brown and Josh Downs had two 1,000+ yard seasons while Dazz Newsome added another season.

Newsome’s season was in 2019 when he had 72 receptions for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior. That same year, Brown had 51 catches for 1,034 yards and 12 touchdowns. He followed that up in 2020 with 55 catches for 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns.

Downs’ had two seasons — in 2021, totaling 101 receptions for 1,335 and eight touchdowns, and 2022 collecting 94 receptions for 1,029 yards and 11 touchdowns.
