North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye continued his impressive season for the Tar Heels on Saturday night and is climbing an Atlantic Coast Conference leaderboard in the process.
With his five-touchdown performance on Saturday night, Maye now has 29 passing touchdowns on the year. That’s good for the fourth most all-time by a freshman in ACC history per the conference. Maye is doing it in his redshirt freshman season, after winning the job over Jacolby Criswell in the offseason.
Former UNC quarterback Sam Howell holds the record with 38 passing touchdowns as a freshman, beating out Trevor Lawrence who had 30 for Clemson.

The way that Maye is playing right now, he should eclipse the record barring any injuries. And Howell would likely have no problem with that as the two are good friends.
Maye still has four regular season games plus potentially two more postseason games.
