Mack Brown takes full blame for the disastrous loss to James Madison. UNC football was taken down 70-50 on Saturday against JMU, an opponent that they were favored by double digits to beat.
After the conclusion of the game, Mack Brown, UNC’s head coach, had this to say when asked if this was the most shocking result in his career.
I think the fourth quarter at App State was pretty shocking. That was one I’d never seen before, we did still pull it out. And like I said, I thought we’d pull this one out today, so I’m not ready to make statements on what’s the worst day of my life yet. Since I’m an hour out, I’d like to think about that before I declare this the worst day of my life.
Brown was then asked what his next steps would look like, and he had this to say.
I don’t know. I go home, start thinking about that. I hadn’t, you know, I’ve had 15 minutes here or 30 to walk off the field and try to figure all this out, and I got to answer questions for them. I got to answer questions for you all, and then I got to figure out what happened. I ain’t even seen it, so now I have to, unbearably, have to go and watch it.
It remains to be seen where UNC and coach Brown will go from here. Questions will arise about the status of his job, the readiness of the team, and the ability of the players going forward.
