UNC football WR Devontez Walker listed among impact transfers

UNC football wide receiver Devontez Walker has been named an impact transfer in the ACC for this season.

With North Carolina losing wide receivers Josh Downs and Antoine Green, it was important to find players at that position in the transfer portal. And that’s exactly what they did.

UNC added two wide receivers for Drake Maye, landing Devontez Walker and Nate McCollum. The two are expected to come in and contribute right away for Chip Lindsey’s offense. Walker should be the top target in UNC’s offense and one college football writer thinks the receiver will be one of the impact transfers in the ACC.

Here is what CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson wrote on Walker and the impact he could have:

The offensive fire sale at Kent State sent a head coach, quarterback and two wide receivers on to new homes in power conferences, but the excitement around Walker’s role with the Tar Heels took on a new level after spring practice. Walker was the No. 6 player in the transfer portal rankings, and the opportunity to catch passes from a future NFL Draft pick Drake Maye served as a stellar recruiting pitch for coach Mack Brown. With Josh Downs off to the NFL Draft, there are plenty of receptions available and Walker has made it clear he’s in the mix to be the alpha of the wide receiver room this fall. North Carolina also added wide receiver Nate McCollum from Georgia Tech, and with a wave of exits in the secondary, found some reinforcements with a four-star, top-200 transfer in Alijah Huzzie from East Tennessee State.

Walker will certainly get a lot of opportunities to catch passes from Maye this season and if he can take advantage of that, it could be a big year for him in Chapel Hill.
