Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels football staff lost out on a priority recruit this Summer when Malik Clark announced he was committed to Florida State. The four-star recruit was a top target for UNC as the Tar Heels were rumored to be a favorite at one point in the recruitment.
The Rock Hill, South Carolina native saw a strong push from the Gamecocks as well, as they were rumored in his final two with the Seminoles. But with Florida State’s 0-3 start to the season, teams are inquiring about recruits.
That includes Clark.
Per Rivals reporter Adam Gorney, both the Tar Heels and Gamecocks are still pushing to potentially flip Clark from his commitment to the Seminoles:
Clark committed to Florida State in July after a late push by the Seminoles beating out South Carolina for the four-star receiver from Rock Hill, S.C. But after Florida State has shockingly started 0-3, the Gamecocks and North Carolina have swooped back in and those two programs are working to flip Clark. He remains committed but the Carolina schools are not giving up.
That’s an important note as Gorney writes that he is still committed to FSU but that hasn’t stopped either of the other two schools for continuing their pursuit.
With North Carolina having quarterback Bryce Baker coming in for the 2025 class, they would love to pair him with a top receiver target. And Clark would be a perfect fit for that.
Let’s see if things get interesting in his recruitment moving forward.
