The North Carolina Tar Heels are busy making changes and additions to their football program, with none larger than hiring Bill Belichick to be their next head football coach.
We’re seeing the Belichick effect work its way throughout UNC, with numerous transfers choosing to continue their college football careers in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina’s greatest transfer portal addition – through Wednesday, January 1 – is former Washington linebacker Khmori House, who is the portal’s second-ranked linebacker and 92nd overall prospect.
Given Belichick’s proven track record working with talented NFL linebackers, House was recently praised as a “best fit” for Belichick, according to 247Sports’ Grant Hughes.
“We wondered what it was going to look like at Chapel Hill with Bill Belichick,” national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna told Hughes. “Whenever North Carolina gets a commit in the transfer report, I cannot wait to watch. They got Khmori House from Washington. Think about the linebackers Bill Belichick used to have at the New England Patriots: Jamie Collins, Mike Vrabel and Tedy Bruschi. Those guys were extremely instinctive but also extremely versatile. Khmori House can play in the box as a linebacker and also off the edge as a pass-rusher. He can drop in coverage, too. I love the versatility. He had a heck of a freshman season. He is a huge, huge addition for North Carolina.”
During his freshman season at Washington, in which the Huskies finished 6-7 and lost to Louisville in the Sun Bowl, House recorded 19 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception. House’s best stretch came during Washington’s first three November games, as he totaled 14 tackles (eight solo, six assisted), forced a fumble and deflected one pass.
House and freshman Amare Campbell, who stepped up and shined as UNC’s new starting middle linebacker, should lead North Carolina’s defense this coming fall.
