It’s now official. The UNC football program will open up the 2023 season in Charlotte as a neutral site game against South Carolina.
The two teams will meet on September 2nd with the official time still to be determined. This will be the first time since 2019 the two teams will meet in Week 1 at a neutral site as UNC beat South Carolina in Charlotte that year.
South Carolina beat UNC in the 2015 meeting between the two teams in a Thursday night primetime game.
North Carolina and South Carolina have played 59 times with UNC holding a 35-20-4 edge. However, the Gamecocks have won 7 of 9 including the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
The Gamecocks are one of four non-conference games on UNC’s schedule as they will host Appalachian State on September 9th and then Minnesota on September 16th. They will also host Campbell on November 4th in addition to playing the ACC schedule.
