UNC football outside of top 25 in PFF rankings

Here is where the UNC football program lands in Pro Football Focus’ Elo rankings.

The 2023 college football season is still a few months away as the countdown rolls on to late August.

For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they are hoping to get back to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game and this time end the season on a positive note. Mack Brown and his team do return quarterback Drake Maye and a few other pieces but they also lost production on that side of the ball as well as offensive coordinator Phil Longo.

Defensively the team is younger and they got better as the season went on a year ago. That unit could be the key to success this upcoming season.

But what does PFF think of the Tar Heels? Using the Elo ranking which essentially rewards teams for wins and losses based on how fair the matchup is, the Tar Heels were just outside of the Top 25.

They checked in at No. 29 on the list as they do have a bit of a tougher schedule this year.

UNC opens up against South Carolina and also faces Appalachian State and Minnesota in non-conference play. They finish off with a tough stretch at Clemson and NC State.

Time will tell if UNC will be a top 25 team and they can take care of that with their lay on the field.
