UNC football loses out on Georgia defensive back to Big Ten school

A UNC football target in the transfer portal has committed to Purdue over the Tar Heels.

Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels were able to add some help in the secondary through the transfer portal, landing former NC State safety Jakeen Harris on Monday. However, they weren’t able to add another piece to that secondary as they lost out on a big target.

Former Georgia defensive back Nyland Green made his decision in the portal and has committed to Purdue. Green made his decision on Christmas Day just a few weeks after entering the transfer portal.

The former five-star defensive back drew a lot of interest from programs, including UNC in the portal. But in the end, he heads to the Big Ten with Purdue.

For North Carolina, they need to revamp the secondary and while they did add Harris already, not landing Green does hurt a little.

There’s a lot of time left with the portal this offseason and the hope is that they can find a defensive back or two to bring in. So far, UNC has landed four players out of the portal with three being on the offensive side of the football.
