UNC football defensive back Don Chapman enters transfer portal

The UNC football program has lost safety Don Chapman to the transfer portal as he made his decision on Wednesday.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have now seen their first departure in the transfer portal during the new window that opened on Saturday.

Per Matt Zentiz of On3, defensive back Don Chapman is officially in the transfer portal, entering it on Wednesday afternoon. Chapman is the first player to enter the portal for UNC after spring practices.

Chapman spent four seasons at North Carolina, arriving in 2019, and was set to be a fifth-year senior here in the 2023 season. But after weeks of practices, Chapman has made the decision to leave the program and pursue an opportunity elsewhere.

The safety appeared in 43 total games and made 20 starts but saw his playing time dwindle last year. He made one start in 2022, with that coming in the Holiday Bowl loss to Oregon.

Chapman has one year of eligibility remaining at the school he commits to.
