UNC football coaches hint wide receiver is ready to breakout

UNC football coaches believe this wide receiver is ready to breakout for the Tar Heels this season.

With Tez Walker not being eligible this season, the North Carolina Tar Heels lost a big target on offense for quarterback Drake Maye. The Tar Heels do still have capable wide receivers but they are hoping someone else steps up to help complement Nate McCollum and Kobe Paysour.

And that player could be Andre Greene Jr.

The redshirt freshman saw limited action last season as UNC did have Josh Downs and Antoine Green as the top targets. So far, Greene Jr. has been quiet this year but coaches feel like he’s ready to break out.

During Monday’s media availability, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey told reporters that he believes Greene Jr. is getting closer to breaking out and that his time is coming:

Head coach Mack Brown echoed similar thoughts, saying Greene Jr. is getting better and is practicing better, which is a good sign. The receiver did have a shot at a deep ball from Maye last week but it was not a completion.

If Greene can find a way to be a big contributor this season, it would be a big bonus for the offense. And let’s hope he can find that breakout sooner than later.
