UNC commit Drake Powell earns more praise over weekend

UNC basketball 2024 commit Drake Powell earned more praise for his play this weekend after scoring 20 points on Saturday.

The 2024 recruiting class for the UNC basketball program is a very important one. It’s Hubert Davis’ best class so far, ranking No. 1 early on in the cycle.

With four commitments and three by five-star recruits, Davis and his staff will welcome the class on campus in just a few years, hoping it will help elevate the program back to where it needs to be. Among the recruits in the 2024 class is forward Drake Powell.

The Pittsboro product has been one of the highest risers in the recruiting rankings, making big strides since he committed to North Carolina back in 2022. And his hot play continued into the weekend.

While playing in the Phenom Rise Showcase, Powell scored 20 points in Team CP3’s win over Big Shots Elite. And he earned some praise after the game as well:

Powell has climbed to five-star status on 247Sports, ranking as the No. 19 overall player in the updated rankings. He’s climbed from the 50’s to inside the top 20 and the way he’s playing, he can climb even higher.

This is certainly great news for North Carolina and that 2024 class.
