The UNC basketball program has seen its fair share of players enter the transfer portal here in the past two weeks and on Saturday, they added another name to that list.
Redshirt freshman Will Shaver is reportedly entering the transfer portal, becoming the fifth player on UNC’s roster to do so. The report comes from Verbal Commits, as Shaver joins Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson, Tyler Nickel and Justin McKoy to depart the program and enter the portal.
The former three-star recruit enrolled early at North Carolina as part of the 2021 class. He was with the team in January of 2022 as the Tar Heels made a run to the Final Four but did not play in any games.
This past season, Shaver appeared in three games and averaged 2 minutes per game before undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot.

Shaver will now look for a new opportunity after leaving UNC, and with the depth in front of him, it’s likely for the better.
The Alabama native had 12 offers in his recruitment including from Alabama, Florida State, Georgetown and Illinois among others.
