There’s been some activity in college basketball over the past few weeks with the NBA entry deadline passing as well as the closure of the transfer portal.
For North Carolina, they lost a four-star commit in the 2023 class just before he was set to enroll and with Simeon Wilcher now picking St. John’s, it’s time for Gary Parrish to make an update to his preseason Top 25 and 1. In this update, UNC stayed put at No. 22 overall.
Here is what Parrish wrote on UNC’s ranking:
This ranking is based on the Tar Heels returning two of the top three scorers – R.J. Davis and Armando Bacot – from a team that spent much of the season ranked in the top 30 at KenPom.com. The addition of Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan and Jae’Lyn Withers via the transfer portal, and five-star prospect Elliot Cadeau via reclassification, should provide Hubert Davis with enough to return to the 2024 NCAA Tournament after UNC missed it in 2023.
The roster will look a lot different with only R.J. Davis and Armando Bacot being the only two starters returning. But there is a great deal of talent on this team, and it’s up to Hubert Davis to get the most out of it.
Let’s hope the Tar Heels can avoid missing out on the NCAA Tournament again and instead get things turned around.
