UNC basketball showing interest in rising 2024 recruit

The UNC basketball program is showing interest in a rising 2024 recruit that made an impression at the NBA Academy camp.

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels may not be done adding to their 2024 recruiting class which currently ranks No. 1 in the cycle this Summer.

After Elliot Cadeau made the decision to join the 2023 class, it opened up at least one more spot for the Tar Heels in 2024. And now, it appears as if UNC has its eyes on a rising prospect.

Small forward Johnny Furphy is starting to catch the attention of big programs around the country with his performance at the NBA Academy Games here in July. Furphy was one of the standouts with NBA and college personnel in attendance per Travis Branham of 247Sports.

The Canberra (Australia) Centre of Excellence caught the attention of programs like North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, and more:

However, the offers aren’t done rolling in as Duke, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Gonzaga, UCLA, Oklahoma, UCF, Texas Tech, Santa Clara and Colorado have all also expressed heavy interest in the breakout recruit.

This past week has taken Furphy and his family by storm and while they try to gather their thoughts of the new reality, he knows what he will be sorting through and trying to find in his suitors.

Furphy doesn’t have a ranking on 247Sports just yet but the 6-foot-9 recruit does have five offers so far.

It’s expected that his recruitment will pick up this Summer and the recent performance could just be the start.
