UNC basketball named a winner in transfer portal

The UNC basketball program was named a winner in the transfer portal by a recruiting analyst.

The transfer portal window has been very active across college basketball so far, and that’s especially the case for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

After North Carolina had six departures to the portal, it landed four players, including its big target Harrison Ingram. The Tar Heels also landed Cormac Ryan, Jae’Lyn Withers and Paxson Wojcik to fill the roster.

While there is still time to add more, it certainly feels like UNC is in a better spot now than it was a few weeks ago. One national analyst believes that as well.

On the 247Sports’ “College Basketball Recruiting Weekly” podcast, analyst Eric Bossi praised the Tar Heels, calling them a winner out of the portal so far:

“I’m going with Hubert Davis and North Carolina,” Bossi said on 247Sports’ “College Basketball Recruiting Weekly.” “They added their third and fourth transfers, they’ve got a top five transfer class. Cormac Ryan, I think is maybe being a little bit undervalued in what he can bring transferring from Notre Dame. He’s got a lot of experience. He’s going to be able to step out and knock down an outside shot, which is something they could have used more of last year. Like I said, the experience is huge. But then Harrison Ingram, adding him to Ryan and Jae’Lyn Withers and (Paxson) Wojcik, I love what they did there.”

Time will tell if the Tar Heels got it right in the transfer portal. But for a team that missed out on the NCAA Tournament a year ago, they really need to turn things around.

And they may not be done adding to the roster just yet through the portal or in recruiting.
