The college basketball world is focused on Monday night’s championship game between San Diego State and UConn in Houston as the 2022-23 season comes to a close.
As soon as the season ends and the clock hits zero, the focus shifts to next season.
It has already been a wild transfer portal, a record-setting number of players have entered the portal. It will continue to get crazier as the weeks go on, and rosters begin to take shape. Before we get there though, the early top 25 rankings for next season have already started rolling in.
And Jeff Goodman of Stadium released his on Monday afternoon and included the North Carolina Tar Heels in his top 25. Here is what he said about UNC which ranks No. 23 overall:
23. North Carolina | Armando Bacot and RJ Davis are back, and those are the two guys I’d want to build around if I am Hubert Davis. Seth Trimble and Jalen Washington should both make a jump as sophomores, and the Tar Heels will do some work in the portal.
The Tar Heels are one of three ACC teams ranked in the poll behind No. 2 Duke, and No. 11 Miami. Virginia was one of the teams that just missed the cut.
Now, there’s a long way to go and a lot can between now and even the Summer. Plus, these are just rankings from one college analyst. But it wouldn’t surprise us to see the Tar Heels in the preseason AP Top 25 poll for next season.
