UNC basketball makes cut for a top four-star recruiting target

North Carolina was one of eight programs that made the top eight for a four-star recruit.

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels’ basketball program took a step forward in the recruitment of a four-star combo guard.

On Wednesday, guard Acaden Lewis made an important update to his recruitment by cutting his list of 29 offers down to a top eight. Making Lewis’ top 8 were North Carolina, Tennessee, UConn, Kentucky, Syracuse, Michigan, Auburn, and Duke.

It’s a loaded top eight for the talented recruit and it will be tough competition for the Tar Heels if they want to land Lewis. The recruit is set to take visits to his final eight and will hopefully make a decision sometime before the November signing period.

Lewis has already been on unofficial visits to Kentucky and UConn in his recruitment and he will be on UNC’s campus October 4th.

The recruit talked to On3 about what he’s looking for in a program moving forward:

“I’d like to start taking my official visits basically as soon as the summer is over,” Lewis said. “June is kind of hectic with the NBPA Camp and then the two live periods. So after July, once Peach Jam is over, I’m looking to start going on my official visits. My birthday is October, so I was thinking committing then would be cool, but I don’t want to rush things.

“The culture of the school will be big for me. I want to see how they talk to the top guy, their second guy, their thirteenth guy. See how they treat their managers and everyone in the program. The roster will be big too. WIth the portal and everything going on there, I want to go into a family environment where I know the coaches are invested in me.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Lewis is ranked No. 31 overall, No. 4 combo guard, and the No. 1 player in DC per the 247Sports recruiting rankings for the 2025 class.

North Carolina should be in good shape for Lewis as they are looking to add a guard for the future.
