UNC basketball falls out of CBS Sports updated top 25 and 1

The UNC basketball program fell in the latest CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 rankings here in May.

This week will mark the closing of the transfer portal for winter athletics, and it’s been a very active one in college basketball. As we sit here in May, a record number of players entered the portal. Some found new homes; others are still searching.

North Carolina endured the departure of six players in the transfer portal but added four so far. The biggest gain for UNC was the addition of Harrison Ingram, a former five-star recruit that will join a Tar Heels roster that needs help on the wing. Shortly after Ingram committed, UNC moved up in Gary Parrish’s Top 25 and 1 rankings on CBS Sports to No. 26.

That was a couple of weeks ago. After other players committed elsewhere, the Tar Heels fell back out.

In Parrish’s updated version on Monday, May 8, the Tar Heels are left out. Auburn fell two spots to No. 26. Mississippi State moved up as did Iowa State.

Now, these are just preseason early rankings based on what has happened with the rosters so far and a lot of things will certainly change.
