UNC basketball could see potential family tie in second round

If the UNC basketball program meets Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, there will be a family tie.

With the 2024 NCAA Tournament bracket out, some very intriguing first-round matchups are set for Thursday and Friday. Looking ahead, the committee put together some regions that offer interesting matchups with some ties.

A pair of those are in North Carolina’s region.

We’ve already discussed how UNC and Arizona could match up in the Elite 8 with Caleb Love facing his old team to go to the Final Four. Before that, there’s a matchup looming for North Carolina with a family tie.

If North Carolina and Michigan State win their first-round games, Tar Heels guard Paxson Wojcik would face his father, Doug, who is a coach on the Spartans staff:

Paxson transferred to North Carolina after spending time at Loyola-Chicago and Brown. He’s in his final year of eligibility. As for Doug, he was an assistant on North Carolina’s staff from 2000-03 and has years of experience at the college level as an assistant and a head coach.
