North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class is currently No. 1 in the cycle with three commitments so far. Head coach Hubert Davis and his staff have done a great job with the class, despite losing five-star guard Elliot Cadeau to a reclassification.
But as the weeks go by, the class continues to get stronger, and a big reason why is the ascension of forward Drake Powell. The in-state prospect committed to North Carolina in September of 2022 and since then has really elevated his game.
He’s earned a fifth star, climbed into the top 20, the top 10, and now the top 5.
Yep, Powell is now ranked as a top 5 recruit in the 2024 class in the latest 247Sports rankings that were released on Wednesday. With the move to No. 4 overall from No. 10, he’s the highest-ranked in-state commitment for the Tar Heels since Theo Pinson per Inside Carolina.
As Powell moved into the top five, his fellow commitments Ian Jackson and James Brown both fell. Jackson fell to No. 10 in the rankings while Brown is at No. 91. Still, North Carolina’s class is a strong one, having two Top 10 recruits right now.
There is still a long ways to go before the final update for the class and when it’s over, it could be a special one for the Tar Heels.
