UNC basketball commit named a standout at EYBL event

UNC basketball commit Drake Powell earned some honors at the Nike EYBL event over the weekend.

The AAU circuit got off to a big start this weekend with three events in three different cities across the country. And the North Carolina Tar Heels were out on the recruiting trail scouting commits and potential recruiting targets the whole weekend.

As Hubert Davis and assistant coaches were out watching games, one UNC commit had a standout weekend.

Five-star forward Drake Powell continues to raise his stock and get better as a player since he committed to North Carolina. On Sunday, Powell was named the Most Outstanding Player for the day by 247Sports’ Travis Branham who was at the event:

The most outstanding play on Sunday was five-star North Carolina commit Drake Powell. The 6-foot-6 wing earned his status on 247Sports in March following some standout performances at the John Wall Holiday Invitational and he backed that status here at the Nike EYBL.

He had a big matchup against another high level forward in Carter Bryant (who will announce his college decision on Wednesday live on 247Sports) and rose to the occasion.

Powell has been a prospect on the rise for several months now.

When he committed to North Carolina, he was a four-star recruit but since then, he’s earned a fifth star. He’s developed into a really good player and if he continues to play this well, his ranking will continue to go up which is great news for the Tar Heels.
