UNC basketball adds front court depth with Georgia Tech transfer

The UNC basketball program lands a big commitment from a former ACC forward.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have added another piece to their 2024-25 basketball roster.

Just a few days after it was reported that North Carolina had an interest in Georgia Tech forward Tyzhaun Claude, the program officially landed a commitment from him. The Goldsboro, North Carolina native committed to the Tar Heels on Wednesday, just a week before the new school semester is about to begin.

He will be the final piece for Davis’ roster for this season, one that really lacked some depth in the frontcourt after losing Armando Bacot. They add the 6-foot-7, 226-pound forward who spent last season with the Yellow Jackets averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Prior to his time at Georgia Tech, he spent time at Morehead State and then Western Carolina. He suffered an ACL injury at Morehead State causing him to miss significant time.

With Western Carolina, he averaged 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in his lone season.

Claude entered the transfer portal on April 1 but was recently granted a waiver to be eligible and play right away this season. He drew interest right away from North Carolina and Georgetown. But in the end, he went back home to the state of North Carolina.

The forward will provide some much-needed depth in the post along with Jalen Washington, Ven-Allen Lubin and James Brown.
