UNC basketball a shockingly low seed in the preseason ESPN Bracketology

Where the latest ESPN Bracketology has the UNC Basketball program ahead of the season.

North Carolina is set to start their basketball season in under three weeks. They don’t get long to get acclimated to the season before taking on the No. 1 ranked team in the nation at the end of the first week of the regular season.

We have already seen this UNC basketball team draw in the No. 9 ranking in the preseason AP Poll along with the No. 10 rank in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll in the last two weeks.

North Carolina is returning fifth-year senior, RJ Davis, who is using his COVID year along with sophomore Elliot Cadeau to make up one of the best backcourts in the entire country.

The transfer portal worked nicely for Hubert Davis, as well, bringing in Belmont’s Cade Tyson, Vanderbilt’s Van Allen Lubin, and Georgia Tech’s Ty Claude. They will join Jalen Washington and Jae’Lyn Withers as a dynamic group of big men.

To put the team on par with what can be widely considered a low ranking for the team’s potential this season, the Tar Heels drew a No. 3 seed in the first release of ESPN’s preseason Bracketology looking towards March.

Joe Lunardi has Kansas as the nation’s top seed along with Duke, Alabama, and Houston as the No. 1 seeds. Dan Hurley and UConn along with Auburn, Iowa State, and Gonzaga are Lundari’s No. 2 seeds.

Joining UNC at No. 3 includes Tennessee, Arizona, and Baylor.
