North Carolina baseball manager Scott Forbes will be with the program for a little longer.
On Friday, the program announced that Forbes has agreed to a five-year extension as the manager. The next extension runs Forbes’ contract through June 30, 2028.
Since taking over in 2021, Forbes has lead the Tar Heels to the NCAA Tournament in each of his two seasons, compiling a 101-66 record overall.
Last season, UNC won the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and the program’s 10th NCAA Super Regional appearance. This season, the Tar Heels are likely going back to the NCAA Tournament and will look to punch their ticket to the College World Series.
Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham released this statement via GoHeels.com:
“Carolina Baseball continues to be in excellent hands under the leadership of Coach Scott Forbes,” UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said. “He is dedicated not only to developing strong baseball players, but also to mentoring successful students who care about academics and giving back to the Carolina community. He is committed to winning at the highest level and cares deeply about the well-being of everyone around him. He leads our program in a first-class manner, and we are happy that he will remain our coach for years to come.”
Prior to taking over the job in 2021, Forbes spent time as an assistant at North Carolina from 1999-2002, then Winthrop from 2003–2005 and back to Chapel Hill from 2006–2020.
