UGA’s Kirby Smart seems to be siding with Nick Saban on the NIL debate

Kirby Smart’s comments make it clear that he’s not okay with players being swayed to a certain program because of $$$.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban has been in headlines over the last few days for comments he made regarding name, image, likeness and certain schools who seem to be “buying players,” specifically Texas A&M.

Jimbo Fisher went on a heated rant at a press conference he called for himself, where he made sure it was known that Saban was the despicable narcissist and that he should have been slapped as a child. Fisher, once done questioning Saban’s character, vehemently opposed accusations of violating NCAA bylaws surround NIL and recruiting. These accusations seemingly came out of thin air, as Saban never once claimed any program broke any rules.

Saban’s comments were merely bringing into question the sustainability of NIL practices when mixed with recruiting and pointed to the Aggies as a prime example.

Last week on SEC Network, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart discussed NIL and its mighty impact on the game in such a short amount of time.

“I just want to make sure that the game stays at a point where we can control it,” said Smart. “I’m all for the players. We’ve had a lot of players getting opportunities with name, image, likeness. I would just like it where a decision isn’t based on where ‘I’m going to the highest bidder.’ If we could control that some kind of way, it would be much better.”

In the thick of the 2022 offseason where the first game doesn’t kickoff for another few months, expect this topic to be discussed plenty until players hit the field and feuds can be settled by a mere glance at the scoreboard.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide throughout the offseason and share any updates regarding the beef between Saban and Fisher.
