UFC on ESPN+ 31 results: Vicente Luque puts on striking clinic, stops Randy Brown

Vicente Luque continued a successful 2020 run at UFC on ESPN+ 31.

[autotag]Vicente Luque[/autotag] continued a successful 2020 run Saturday night.

The Brazilian welterweight picked up his second win of the year during the main card of UFC on ESPN+ 31 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Luque (18-7-1 MMA, 11-3 UFC) stopped [autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] with four seconds remaining in the second round.

Luque kicked off the fight landing heavy leg kicks on Brown (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC). It was clear the kicks hindered Brown’s offense and movement, which opened up other avenues for Luque’s striking. Halfway through the first, Luque landed a big right hand, sending Brown straight to the canvas.

Brown had an improved second round, but it all didn’t matter in the end. Brown’s striking increased and landed a big spinning elbow on Luque. The “Rude Boy” also landed a takedown, but Luque was able to get back up.

With seconds remaining, Luque connected with a knee while Brown was pressed against the cage and followed up with ground-and-pound on a downed Brown.

With this result, Luque is now 2-0 since losing a decision to Stephen Thompson last November. The 28-year-old showed interest in fighting UFC star Nate Diaz for his next bout.

Meanwhile, Brown’s two-fight winning streak came to an end with the defeat to Luque. He’s 3-2 in his past five outings.
