UCLA’s NIL game a big question going forward

UCLA needs to fix the NIL landscape.

The UCLA Bruins, unsurprisingly, are projected toward the bottom of the Big Ten Conference for the 2024 football season. Given all of the changes in the staff and a daunting Big Ten schedule, it shouldn’t be a surprise.

Antonio Morales of The Athletic answered a series of questions (subscription required), and one of them was regarding UCLA and how long it will take to make a sizable difference with DeShaun Foster as the new coach.

Here’s what the question was: How long do you think it’ll take DeShaun Foster and staff to undo the damage Chip Kelly did to the program in regard to recruiting?

…The real change would be more visible in the 2026 cycle when this staff has had more time to establish itself. But the major question (or hurdle) is whether the Bruins can generate more momentum on the name, image and likeness front because that will go a long way in determining how successful Foster can be on the recruiting trail.

Can the Bruins find some way to fix the NIL issues and be more competitive in the recruiting and transfer portal game? That is the hope, and it’s something Foster addressed immediately after taking the job.
