It seems as though everyone has an opinion on the new coach of UCLA football.
After Chip Kelly’s abrupt but rather unsurprising move to leave Westwood, DeShaun Foster returned to become the Bruins’ head coach. Foster, the former Bruins’ running back coach, left the program to take a job with the Las Vegas Raiders last week. And with Kelly silent on his future with the team and things seemingly falling apart at the seams recruiting-wise, no one blamed him.
But Foster returned to the Bruins after saying goodbye to the program. Since his hire, he has received praise from St. John Bosco coach Jason Negro, per Eric Sondheimer of The Los Angeles Times.
“I think it’s a great hire. I’m excited for DeShaun. He and I have had a great relationship. I appreciate the way he recruits. I appreciate his honesty. He knows Los Angeles and Orange County.”
Jason Negro, the head football coach at St. John Bosco, one of the premier high school programs in the state and the country, spoke about his relationship with Foster and his fit as a hire.
Given the recent struggles in recruiting for the Bruins, having good connections at a great local program could be huge.
If UCLA wants to rebuild its recruiting pipeline and turn its ship in a new direction, tapping into schools like St. John Bosco could just be the beginning for the Bruins as they lay the foundation for a program rebuild.
