UCLA women’s team falls to 15th in ESPN power rankings

UCLA women’s team moves to No. 15 in latest ESPN power rankings.

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team lost a crushing game against Oregon State on Friday night. It wasn’t a bad loss, though, against a team ranked in the top 25 on the road.

Shortly after, they defeated Oregon on the road easily. However, the Bruins dropped to No. 15 overall in ESPN’s latest power rankings released on Monday, courtesy of Michael Voepel. The week before, UCLA was ranked No. 13. Here’s what Voepel wrote:

The Bruins had to take a deep breath after their 79-77 loss at Oregon State that got away at the buzzer. That defeat made UCLA 5-5 in its past 10 games. But the Bruins put it aside to extend Oregon’s misery Sunday, handing the Ducks their ninth consecutive loss. Lauren Betts had 41 points and 16 rebounds in UCLA’s two games.

The good news is that UCLA is firmly in the NCAA Tournament and Lauren Betts has been playing at a ridiculous level. They have a chance to move up with a game against Utah on Thursday night in Los Angeles.
