The UCLA Bruins season is set to kick off on August 31st against the University of Hawai’i.
This week, UCLA’s very own Matt Wadleigh sat down with NBS Media’s Brock Vierra to chat about the Bruins’ outlook for the 2024 season. In the Q&A, Wadleigh spoke on how the team has changed under first-year head coach DeShaun Foster and if he is the solution in Westwood.
When asked, Wadleigh said, “Hiring a first-time head coach is always a gamble, but here’s the thing: Foster has the support of players, alumni, and boosters. He needs time to get this thing going, but I do believe he is a long-term option for UCLA. The question is, does the administration have the patience to wait a couple of years for him to turn it around?”
If the Bruins believe in what Foster has done for the culture, the administration should have no problem giving him time to allow this team to grow. However, if the administration is more focused on a “win now” mindset, they could find themselves in a difficult spot if the Bruins start slow in the BIG Ten.
