UCLA volleyball coach John Speraw leads USA to Olympic medal

What a run by the UCLA coach.

The United States Men’s Volleyball team is coming home with an Olympic medal. The team will leave Paris with a bronze medal. Team USA beat Italy on Friday to finish the event.

On this squad was a trio of UCLA Men’s Volleyball team members. Head coach John Speraw guided the way. Both Garrett Muagututia and Micah Ma’a were part of the 12-man team.

Muagututia went to UCLA from 2007-2010. This was his second Olympic competition. Ma’a was with the Bruins from 2016-2019. This was his first trip to the summer games.

This win came after a heartbreaking loss for the team in the semi-finals. The win came 25-23, 30-28, 26-24. It is the second bronze medal in the last three Olympics.

The UCLA Bruins have had a long history of successful Men’s Volleyball. Speraw, who graduated from UCLA was a two-time national champion. He was three tiles at UC Irvine as a head coach before winning his first with the Bruins in 2023.
