UCLA Track and Field welcomes Nick Newman

Nick Newman comes to town.

The UCLA Bruins Track and Field team has a new assistant coach. Nick Newman has joined the staff as an assistant coach. Newman is known as one of the top jump coaches in the country. He comes to UCLA from Auburn, where he helped lead seven Top 5 finishes. Before his time at Auburn, he was at Tennessee for a season, USC for a pair, and three at California-Berkeley. He was named the 2022 Assistant Coach of the Year for USTFCCCA.

Newman is from England and was a participant in two international competitions as an athlete. He achieved a personal best long jump of 7.80m in 2012.

Head Track and Field and Cross Country coach Joanna Hayes is excited about the hire, and had this to say about Coach Newman:

“It’s awesome to have Coach Nick Newman back on the west coast,” said Hayes. “He has a proven track record of delivering results and bringing the best out of his student-athletes. I’m excited for us to get to work and carry on the legacy of the UCLA jumps and multis program.”

The UCLA Track and Field team will start their 2025 competition season in January.
