The UCLA Bruins Softball team, as the No. 6 seed overall, are heading to the Super Regional after a weekend of wins. The thriller came on Saturday when the Bruins took down Virginia Tech after falling behind 4-0.
The Bruins won their first game on Friday, with a quick and easy 9-0 win over Grand Canyon. The 7-6 win over Virginia Tech was full of excitement. The Hokies jumped out to a 4-0 lead and later took a 6-5 lead in the 7th inning.
The Bruins got the party started in the bottom of the inning with a Megan Grant walk. Jordan Woolery nearly ended the game but settled for a game-tying triple. The game-winner came from Savannah Pola’s walk-off single. Pola discussed the at-bat with the Daily Bruin:
“In that moment, my mind, it was like no fear of failure. No matter what, my teammates were going to have my back.”
The weekend ended with another win over Grand Canyon, this time 9-1 on Sunday. Now, the Bruins will take on the 11th-seeded Georgia Bulldogs in the Super Regionals. The first game is slated for Thursday, with Game 2 on Friday and if needed Game 3 on Saturday. The winner of the Georgia/UCLA series will then get either Tennessee or Alabama.
The Women’s College World Series is slated for May 30th – June 7th.
