UCLA freshman QB finishes with silver medal for Team USA at U20 Championships

Karson Gordon was impressive at the U20 World Championships, getting silver in the triple jump.

Karson Gordon, who arrived on campus at UCLA in June is showing he is an elite athlete. He went to the U20 Championships in Lima Peru, and finished with a silver medal for Team USA. His medal came in the triple jump, with a 16.74M. It was a high school national record.

He chose to come to UCLA to give him the chance to compete in two sports, football and track and field. He was a three-star recruit out of high school, and the 19th ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country. Gordon helped his team to a state championship in 4A football. He was also great in 2022 completing 63.2% of his passes for over 2,100 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Gordon came to UCLA from Missouri City Texas, where he went to Episcopal High School. DeShaun Foster allowed Gordon to miss the start of the season, including the trip to Hawaii, to compete and be an all-around athlete.

Foster said this when he was asked about the true freshman missing time:

“I don’t think we’ll have this situation again. I think it’s because of the Olympics and the timing of it right now. So maybe in ’28 again we could have that problem. He’s going to jump here at UCLA and you can’t stop a big-time athlete like that from competing.

The Bruins hope Gordon can rejoin the squad after his return from Lima, but he will likely not see game action in 2024.
