The UCLA Bruins are on the road at the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on Saturday. The UCLA Bruins come into the season with a new head coach in DeShaun Foster. He took over following Chip Kelly leaving after an 8-5 season and a win in the LA Bowl last season.
For Hawaii, they are already 1-0 on the season. The Rainbow Warriors stayed at home and beat up on Delaware State last Saturday. Hawaii won the game 35-14, and are one of the lone teams with a 1-0 record as Week 1 begins.
Bruins Offensive Approach
Much of the offense is back for UCLA this season. After splitting much of last season, Ethan Garbers is going to be the main man behind center for the Bruins. Last season he completed 67% of his passes for over 1,110 yards and 11 touchdowns. Garbers threw just three interceptions.
Running back Carson Steele is gone to Kansas City, but T.J. Harden is ready to step in and take over. He led the team with 8 rushing touchdowns a season ago. Jalen Berger from Michigan State has joined the mix and will get a look at running back as well.
Logan Loya and J. Michael Sturdivant both return for the Bruins. They combined for 95 receptions, over 1,100 yards and 9 touchdowns last season for the UCLA offense. It will be interesting to see who gets the most touches, but the offense looks like it has plenty of weapons.
Hawaii Seeking Back-to-Back Wins
Brayden Schager managed the game for Hawaii in the win. He only completed 50% of his passes and finished with 203 yards and two touchdowns. His top target in the game was Pfele Ashlock, who caught 5 passes for 81 yards.
Dekel Crowdu and Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala caught two touchdown passes for the Rainbow Warriors, while Schager rushed for two in the second half of the game. The other touchdown was in the first quarter when Hawaii returned a point for a touchdown.
The defense for Hawaii did a nice job keeping Delaware State out of the end zone but was not overly opportunistic. In a game like this, the Rainbow Warriors are going to have to get a turnover or two to stay in the game, and eventually win at home.
UCLA Wire Score Prediction
We like the Bruins to get their first DeShaun Foster-era win. The offense looks solid, and the defense bends but does not break, allowing just two Hawaii touchdowns. The Bruins head to a bye week, and then Big Ten play with a 1-0 record. Our UCLA Wire score prediction is UCLA beat Hawaii 38-14.
