No one expected Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes would become one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks when he made his NFL debut back in 2018. But that fact has become one of the constants in the league.
After just three seasons in the league, Mahomes has put together quite the resume, which includes leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl LIV championship and being named Super Bowl MVP. In just his first season, Mahomes was named to first-team All Pro and was the NFL’s MVP in 2018.
Mahomes is the perfect example of how first impressions can be deceiving, especially when it comes to teammate Tyreek Hill, who has been a beneficiary of Mahomes at quarterback in the Chiefs’ dynamic offense.
While Hill has hailed Mahomes for his freakish ability, his initial impression of Mahomes as a rookie wasn’t the most flattering. But thankfully, he was dead wrong.
“I thought he was trash,” Hill said on Showtime’s Inside the NFL. “I ain’t gonna cap.”

Mahomes has thrived during his time in Kansas City, where he led the Chiefs to two Super Bowl appearances in his first three seasons and has been the general of the league’s most explosive offense.
While Hill’s first impression of Mahomes wasn’t stellar, it’s safe to say things have certainly changed three years and one Super Bowl championship later.
