Tyreek Hill says ‘there is no ceiling’ for Chiefs second-year WR Mecole Hardman

The Kansas City Chiefs’ second-year receiver is in for a big year if he keeps preparing the right way.

We already know that the Kansas City Chiefs are expecting big things from  WR Mecole Hardman during his second season in the NFL. Now we’re learning that one of Hardman’s teammates also anticipates that he’ll take a big leap moving forward, at least with the proper preparation.

When speaking to the media on Friday, Chiefs starting WR Tyreek Hill spoke on his expectations for Hardman in 2020 and beyond. Hill thinks that Hardman has limitless potential, so long as he continues to maintain his work ethic from his rookie season.

“Well, I think Mecole (Hardman) is going to continue to be a heck of a player,” Hill said. “But it’s all about mindset. I feel like if he continues to do what he has been doing in the past and works his butt off, he’s going to be amazing. There is no ceiling for this kid. I feel like he’s definitely a 1000-yard receiver every year, with the targets obviously. But he’s just got to continue to work. He’s got to be different, he’s got to find something to be different every year. It just can’t be speed, it can’t just be relying on route running. Sometimes there’s going to be a contested catch. Sometimes you’ve got to get off a jam [at the line of scrimmage]. You’ve got to work on those things. I feel like he is going to work on those things because he wants to be great and he wants to be a part of this offense. He likes the challenge, so he’s going to be great.”

Those are some pretty lofty expectations from Hardman’s teammate, but they don’t appear unachievable. Hill may already be onto something with Hardman working on improving certain areas of his game. Hardman has been working this offseason with one of the best WR coaches in Rischad Whitfield, who is better known as “The Footwork King.”

Whitfield and Hardman are specifically working on his ability to beat press-man coverage, something that Hill pointed out as an area that needs improvement. That’s what Whitfield works on exclusively with the receivers he coaches — how to beat press coverage using your feet and hands. He makes sure that receivers don’t have any wasted motion and that each motion is purposeful.

From the looks of it, Hardman is already well on his way to making the necessary improvements to reach new heights during the 2020 NFL season.
