Tyreek Hill says he wasn’t angry on sidelines: ‘Just motivating my teammates’

Tyreek Hill says that was no sideline tantrum Monday night.

On Monday night, Tyreek Hill was shown yelling on the Miami Dolphins sideline late in their 31-12 loss to the Tennessee Titans. It appeared that Hill, who finished with just 23 receiving yards, was frustrated and lashing out amidst another rough offensive performance for the Dolphins.

On Wednesday, the eight-time Pro Bowler offered a different explanation for the moment that was caught by ESPN cameras.

“I’m in a good spot in my life,” Hill said, via David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “I wouldn’t refer to it as shouting. That’s just me motivating my teammates. I was simply telling [Jaylen Wright] that we need more of that, because he had a great run there towards the end of the game. I was like ‘I need more of that! I need more of that [Wright]! I need more of that [Jonnu Smith]! I need more of that [Tyler Huntley]!’

“That’s just me, man. Just motivating my teammates. There’s no ill-will. My teammates know me — I’ll never break down and I’ll never call nobody out in that moment. If I have a problem with somebody, I’ll pull you to the side and I’ll tell you what’s going on.”

After the game, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel shrugged off Hill’s sideline outburst.

“I would expect him to be visibly upset at somebody,” McDaniel said. “He’s a leader and he wanted to do everything that he could to make sure the result wasn’t that. Within the locker room there’s a lot of guys challenging each other and we get an opportunity to see what we’re made of, for sure.”

Hill averaged 112.4 yards per game during the 2023 season, but has recorded just 10 receptions for 87 yards in the last three weeks.

Amid the tailspin for the Dolphins, Hill has preached patience and optimism on social media.

Hill is on a streak of three consecutive games with less than 50 receiving yards for the first time since the first six games of his rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
