A wrist injury that may eventually require surgery isn’t the only ailment that has dogged Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
According to Dolphins wide receivers coach Wes Welker, Hill also has an ankle injury that has caused him difficulties this season.
“[Hill’s] dealing with his wrist, he’s got an ankle [injury] — there’s always stuff as you get older in the league,” Welker told reporters Thursday.
After back to back seasons with more than 1,700 receiving yards, Hill has seen his production significantly fall off in 2024. With two games left in the regular season, Hill has 70 receptions for 834 yards and six touchdowns.
On Sunday, after finishing with only 29 yards against the San Francisco 49ers, Hill said a lack of practice reps was contributing to his miscues, which included a pair of costly drops in the win.
Despite his underwhelming numbers, Welker defended Hill’s performance this season.
“Anytime you have as much as success as he’s had in the past two years here, people are going spend time and try to find ways to make it harder for him,” Welker said. “What I see on film — as far as execution and doing his job on a play in and play out basis — I think has been really, really good. … From assignment, technique, all those different things, he’s been really good play in, play out.”
Hill needs 166 yards in the Dolphins’ last two games to notch the seventh 1,000-yard season of his career.
