Tyreek Hill: Extension is ‘going to come,’ I’m just focused on winning

Tyreek Hill is confident an extension with the Dolphins will come at some point, so he’s not spending time worrying about it.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill says extension talks with the Miami Dolphins have been positive, but he’s not spending much time or energy worrying about a deal getting done.

“You see me out here practicing each and every day,” Hill told reporters Thursday after a training camp session. “At this point, my focus is on helping this team win games. I know it’s going to come whenever it happens.”

Hill, 30, still has three years left on his deal with the Dolphins, but none of his base salary is guaranteed after the 2024 season. Also, many other NFL receivers have received new contracts this offseason, pushing the market for Hill’s explosive services higher.

The last three years on Hill’s deal aren’t doing Miami many favors either. He’s due to count $65.6 million against the Dolphins’ salary cap over the next two seasons and then a ridiculous $56.3 million in 2026 alone.

The Dolphins could recoup a lot of that cap space by cutting Hill in the 2025 or 2026 offseason, but the eight-time Pro Bowler is fresh off back-to-back seasons with 1,700 yards, something no player has ever accomplished before. He’s proven an integral part of Mike McDaniel’s offense and hasn’t showed signs of slowing.

It’s also clear that Hill isn’t interested in leaving South Beach. He wants “to stay forever” and retire with the Dolphins, so he’s instructed his agent not to screw it up by playing hardball in negotiations.

“The only thing I told [my agent] Drew [Rosenhaus] was like, ‘Do not get me traded. Last time you did this, you got me traded.’ So that’s been my only thing to him. I want to stay here in Miami.”
