The 2020 NFL free agency period is quickly approaching and major decisions await numerous teams around the league. The Seahawks are one of them, with several of their key players likely to test the waters and multiple positions Seattle must address.
As such, speculation has been running rampant about the major moves the team will make in the offseason. Unfortunately, this also means that wild ideas have been floated.
Twitter user “Sosa K” even suggested the Seahawks should cut veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett or offensive tackle Duane Brown to shed salary cap space.
The Seahawks should cut Tyler Lockett, it would save them 6.85M. That or Duane Brown which would save them 3.5M. pic.twitter.com/VxaO2m5ZMo

Lockett responded to the user via his own Twitter account.

It would be fairly unexpected and unreasonable for Seattle to cut quarterback Russell Wilson’s top target, especially when his current contract looks like such a bargain relative to his production.
Wilson achieved a perfect passer rating when targeting Lockett in the 2018 regular season, which speaks volumes about how efficient they are together. Lockett is also coming off his first season with over 1,000 receiving yards and is in the prime of his career at 27 years old, turning 28 in September. Releasing him would deal a massive blow to Seattle’s Super Bowl ambitions.
In addition, Brown is one of the most consistent offensive linemen on a unit that has question marks of its own before even taking free agency into account. Seattle would be hard-pressed to release him given that Wilson needs all of the protection he can get.
While Seattle must make quite a few important decisions this offseason, cutting either Lockett or Brown does not seem likely at all.
