Less than two weeks into the season we’re already seeing some pretty significant odds movement across NBA futures. First listed at +2000 odds to win Sixth Man of the Year at Tipico Sportsbook before the season, Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has leaped to the front of the leaderboard with +450 odds to nab the award.
Perhaps Herro’s 6MOY campaign was jump-started during the Heat’s five preseason games, where he averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. However, it’s understandable if those few practice games didn’t exactly garner the attention of both bettors and oddsmakers. As it turns out, those preseason games were simply a precursor for what was to follow during the opening few games of the regular season.
Herro’s hot start to the meaningful games can’t be ignored. The third-year guard has turned in 23.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists off the bench over Miami’s first three games, and has seen his 6MOY odds skyrocket. His current statistics would be career-highs across the board for Herro and would give him some of the best stats of any former winner of the award.

Whether or not Herro can sustain his high odds throughout the season is relatively unknown, but his hot start to the season is encouraging nonetheless. Keep in mind, in nine of the last 10 seasons the award has been given to a guard, and all but one have come from teams that would go on to make the NBA playoffs.
Needless to say, it’s good to see Herro excelling after his sophomore season fell short of the expectations that had been set for him following an impressive rookie season and phenomenal run in the NBA Bubble.
