Tyler Herro shared a positive update on his injured right ankle

After missing the past five games for the Heat, Herro said he could return soon after the All-Star break.

Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro said on Friday morning he should be able to return to play soon after a walking boot covering his right foot is removed next week.

The 13th overall pick has missed the past five games for the Heat after suffering a foot injury on Feb. 3. The Heat have classified the ailment as a right ankle injury, though Herro said during his NBA Rising Stars media availability that it was his right foot that was in pain.

Herro will not play in the event on Friday night as Collin Sexton was selected to replace him by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver earlier this week. While the update Herro shared on Friday was positive, the injury was thought to be more serious, via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.

At first, they said it was going to be worse. They thought I was going to be out for almost until the playoffs. So, it was good to hear that I can get my boot off this upcoming week and just take it day by day and see how I feel once I get out of it. I’m trying to do my best to get out there as fast as possible.

Prior to suffering the injury, Herro had missed just three games this season, two due to a knee injury and one for a sprained ankle. In 46 games played, Herro is averaging 13.1 points, four rebounds and two assists.
