Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro scored a career-high 37 points on Wednesday during a 112-109 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals to become the youngest player in NBA history to hit that mark off of the bench.
Herro shot 14-of-21 from the field and 5-of-10 from 3-point range in 35 minutes of work to help the Heat come just one win away from returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014. His 37 points set the Heat franchise record by a rookie in a playoff game, topping the previous mark by Dwyane Wade.
The 20-year-old also set the NBA record for the most points scored in a conference finals game by a rookie, a mark that has stood for nearly 40 years, according to ESPN.
Most points by a rookie in a conference finals:
- Tyler Herro: 37 – 2020
- Andrew Toney: 35 – 1981
- Earl Tatum: 32 – 1977
- Daniel Gibson: 31 – 2007
- Larry Bird: 31 – 1980
Herro scored 17 points alone in the fourth quarter to help the Heat stave off the Celtics. He came up with a number of clutch buckets for the Heat and once again proved that no stage is too big for him after turning in his best performance to date.
Game 5 is scheduled to tip-off Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
