Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro revealed on Thursday that his former head coach at the University of Kentucky has been giving him advice during the NBA Finals.

Of course, the Heat enter Game 5 on Friday night facing a 3-1 series deficit to the Los Angeles Lakers but the message John Calipari has delivered to Herro is to keep fighting. Unsurprisingly, that is the same message the Heat have been preaching throughout the entire series.

With the exception of Game 1, the Heat have had opportunities to win in Games 2 and 4 and have kept it within arms reach until the final minutes. The Heat know they will have to play nearly perfect in order to win but they have shown they can do it.

“I’ve talked to Coach Cal almost every day after every game,” Herro said. “Just pretty much telling me that we’re right there. We can play with these guys. They made a few more plays down the stretch than us but other than that we know we’re right there, step for step with them. This series isn’t over is the advice that he gave to me.”

Herro, along with Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo, is one of several former Wildcats in the NBA Finals to play under Calipari. No matter who wins, though, it will mark the first time a Calipari-coached player will have won a championship.

Game 5 is set to tip-off at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
