As many players around the NBA attempt to stay active during the coronavirus pandemic, several have been forced to train outside due to the limited exercise equipment available.
Some teams have sent workout equipment to players but when it comes to cardio exercises, many have been forced to run outside. Players can hit the streets near their homes in a worst-case scenario while keeping their distance from others.
In an interview with Will Manso of WPLG, Herro said he has been running in the mornings in downtown Miami near AmericanAirlines Arena, where the Heat play.
“I’ve been getting a run in on the sidewalk downtown [in the morning],” Herro said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “I usually run from my apartment to the arena. Then do a workout with the team [on Zoom], lifting weights. Other than that, a lot of video games, a lot of film, trying to stay in my routine in case the season does start up.”
“I’ve been to a park a couple times to get some shots up. They’ve been telling us to stay out of public gyms and obviously, the arena is closed. I’ve got my basketball inside my house and I lay in my bed and shoot it in the air.”
Players have been forced to get creative with some of their workouts with little access to gyms or equipment. Most jurisdictions around the United States have not prohibited running or exercising outside but do require distancing of 6-8 feet from others.
