Tyler Boyd doesn’t sound too concerned about Joe Burrow’s injury comeback

No. 83 isn’t worried about his connection with Joe Burrow.

That unconcerned vibe coming from the entire Cincinnati Bengals organization over Joe Burrow’s calf injury ahead of the 2023 season opener?

It extends to his weapons such as Tyler Boyd.

Asked about how the injury might impact his connection with Burrow as soon as the quarterback returns, Boyd made it clear there’s zero concern on that front.

“Not long. About one drive,” Boyd said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Whatever. It doesn’t matter. I’ve got years under my belt with him. Whatever play we call, I know what he’s expecting me to do and where I’m supposed to be in any coverage. So I’m pretty locked in on the chemistry. Just put him out there, we’ll make it work.”

That should naturally apply to other weapons such as Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, too.

While fans might recall the brutally slow start to the last season as Burrow came off the ruptured appendix, as Zac Taylor and others have pointed out, this is an entirely different sort of injury. The calf is a more manageable thing compared to say, an internal injury that caused serious weight loss.

Maybe the Bengals don’t come out firing on all cylinders on the first drive of Week 1, but if anyone would know, it’s Boyd — it shouldn’t take long.
